Weather is volatile and we will always make decisions within 2-3 hours of an event. Under the circumstance that Heart Wild Hikes (HWH) cancels a hike, all participants will be fully refunded in full (for the day of the cancelled hike). No fees will apply.
DO YOU HAVE TO PARTICIPATE IN ALL ACTIVITIES?
The choice is entirely up to you! All activities are optional (with the exception of the hike itself…lol) but we highly recommend you partake in the wellness portion as well (yoga, reiki, meditation, journalling and/or intuitive healing). Should you choose to pass on the wellness activities, you will be required to stay with the group and wait quietly for the activities to complete.
Keep in mind, the type of activities will vary from Hike to Hike. Participants will be informed if the hike day includes yoga for packing requirements.
Comfortable, light weight hiking shoes or boots generally work the best. Shoes must enclose the entire foot and toes (no open-toe sandals, or water shoes). Whatever footwear you chose, make sure you have worn them in advance of your trip to ensure they fit well and are comfortable.
Hiking Clothes that are comfortable enough to practice Yoga in (on Yoga Hikes). Travel light! Recommended items include snacks and packed lunch, two water bottles (or bladder pack), sunglasses, hat, sunscreen, bug spray, lip balm, camera, journal and pen, little gloves, layering clothes for weather, extra socks (not cotton) and a Yoga mat (if you plan on doing yoga for Yoga Hikes).
*if you don’t want to bring a yoga matt into the mountains, feel free to bring a towel instead.
It is also good to have a whistle and a garbage bag (if the ground is wet and you want something to sit on)
AM I IN GOOD ENOUGH SHAPE?
Give us a call with any of your concerns about participating in one of our hiking excursions. Our hikes are designed for all skill levels and is a perfect day trip. Hikes are graded as beginner to moderate in Kananaskis Parks. No previous hiking, yoga and/or reiki experience is required, however, it is recommended you be in good physical shape. Gym fitness is different from hiking fitness when you are on your feet most of the day. Even being outdoors in the fresh air can be quite tiring. Our hikes are aimed at those who are active and reasonably fit. A general rule of thumb is to be able to carry a pack weighing 10-15lbs and hiking approx. 2-3 hrs (7-13km) with vertical gains of 100m – 600m. You will be carrying your own gear, lunch and drinks.
Yoga will be offered on various hike days and is available for ALL levels. Yoga is not all about flexibility, yoga can improve your balance, focus, concentration and wellbeing on and off the yoga mat…..it is a time for you to connect with your mind body and soul.
All of our excursions take place in beautiful K-Country…and yes that means we will be entering the homeland for bears, wild cats, moose, elk, deer, mountain goats, big horn sheep, snakes, bugs and more! We would like to bring awareness to the fact that there is always a potential of encountering one of these beings on our outing, so if you have a crippling fear of seeing any of these animals, these hikes may not be for you. That being said, encounters do happen, and it is our goal to keep you and the animals safe.
Also, keep in mind it can get very hot, or very cold and/or wet quickly so please be prepared for all weather conditions.
As well, please be prepared that mobile reception in the mountains is typically poor to non-existent.
Smoking of any sorts (including vape pens) is not permitted during our hikes.
Heart Wild Hikes does not permit pets on any of our adventures. As dog lovers we wish this was not the case. We cannot control other off leash dogs that may walk through and how they interact with your pet. This variable can be extremely disruptive and dangerous. We hope you can understand.
Heart Wild Hikes are family friendly (10+ upon approval), and are suitable for people who enjoy an active, meditative, and spiritual outdoor experience.
Heart Wild Hikes would like to preserve our trails and respect other hikers. We keep our groups small to ensure both values (max 12 participants).
When you sign up for a Heart Wild Hike you are signing up to hike as one unit. Our objective is to stay together. Please do not leave the group to hike on your own. If you are not interested in keeping pace with the group this adventure may not be for you. At no time in the trip will you be permitted to leave the group and hike on your own. (If you have a fast pace and have a hard time hiking with others consider adding extra weight to your pack to slow you down 😉 )
Heart Wild Hike facilitators are NOT Certified Travel Guides. Know that HWH has your best interest in mind and that Cara Marshall is Certified with Wilderness & Remote First Aid & CPR Level C.
Note: All trip details are subject to change based on weather & trail conditions. There is inherent risk involved with outdoor recreation and yoga. You will be required to sign a Waiver of Liability, Waiver of Claims, Express Assumption of Risks and Indemnity Agreement before departing on any Heart Wild Hike. As well, clients must follow all safety procedures set forth by their facilitators while participating in a HWH. Clients are ultimately responsible for their own safety during any of our trips.
We encourage you to read over each of the forms. No persons who refuse signatures will be permitted on any Heart Wild Hike events.
